New Platform. More Trains. The Jurong East Modification Project.

On Friday, 27th May 2011 at 7am, a new platform at the Jurong East Interchange will receive it's first passengers. Together with 5 new trains, the Jurong East Modification Project, or JEMP for short, will ease the crowding at the Jurong East Interchange during the weekday morning peak hours from 7am to 9am.

Come December 2011, when all 22 new trains are available, we will also open the platform during the evening peak hours. Let's take a walk through the Jurong East Interchange, an interchange station providing connections between the North South Line and East West Line. To get around the Jurong East Interchange, you only need to remember four easy steps.

Number one, listen to the audio announcements in the train and at the station.
"Passengers heading towards Ang Mo Kio via Woodlands, please alight and cross over to Platform D on the right."
Number two, check the train platform and schedule on the screens.
Number three, follow the signs at the concourse and platform to find your way.
Number four, ask the service ambassadors or staff if you need help.

Look out for the passenger information display screens located near the fare gates for train schedules and boarding platforms. If you are taking the North South Line going towards Woodlands, you will now have an additional platform to board your train during the morning peak hours. Look out for signs to point you in the right direction.

For most of you transferring at the Jurong East Interchange, you can continue to make a cross platform transfer when you switch lines.
Say, you are arriving at the North South Line and would like to get on the East West Line to go east, to Pasir Ris. Simply cross over to the adjacent platform B or C to board your train to Pasir Ris.

As with all interchanges, some commuters may need to change platforms to transfer to another line. Let's use another example to illustrate.
If you are coming from the East West Line towards Joo Koon, and would like to get on the North South Line to go to Woodlands, you now have a choice.
You can cross over to platform E to board your train towards Woodlands.
But if you find the platform crowded, there's another way. Simply go down one level, take a short walk, and board your Woodlands bound train at the new platform A. What you need to remember are the four easy steps to get around.

Step one, listen to in-train announcements prior to arriving at the Jurong East Interchange.
"Passengers who are heading towards Woodlands or Ang Mo Kio, please alight and proceed to Platform A or E."
Step two, check the passenger information display screens, at the platform and concourse, which will give you a real-time train arrival information.
Step three, follow the signs to guide you to the right platform.
Step four, ask if you are unsure, the friendly service ambassadors are ready to give you directions.

The new platform provides you with more space to board your train, and allows more trains to run during the weekday morning peak hours from 7am to 9am. When all 22 new trains arrive in December 2011, we will open the new platform during the evening peak hours too.
